The Gene Hooper Family Show

Gene & Flo Hooper

For 60 years, Gene Hooper has entertained audiences throughout the United States and Canada.  Gene was a star on the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree for many years. He is a member of the Maine Counrty Music Hall of Fame as well as a pioneer in the Downeast Country Music Association. When the history of country music in New England is written, "Genial" Gene Hooper will certainly be an important part of that story.

Gene was born and raised in Machias, Maine, and at the early age of 16 was broadcasting on radio stations in Bangor. He is very well known for his beautiful renditions of Jimmie Rodgers' songs and has stayed with the traditional country music that many of the older folks know and love.

The Gene Hooper Family Show consists of Gene Hooper, Gene's lovely wife Flo, and their daughter Sharlene. Flo Hooper was born in Lewiston, Maine, and is the sister to Little Betty Cody. "Little Flo" as she is called, although barley five feet tall, can yodel with the best that this writer has ever heard and never fails to bring the audience to their feet with an excellent rendition of these country yodeling songs. Flo is also a wonderful harmony singer and joins with her husband on some of the most beautiful country duets that you will ever hear.

Another talented member of the Hooper family is their daughter, Sharlene, who is an excellent singer and entertainer. Sharlene and her mother very often join in and do some very beautiful duet singing as part of "The Gene Hooper family Show"

Anyone who has had a chance to see The Gene Hooper Family Show will agree that this group of entertainers can be credited with presenting and preserving old-time country music and entertaining their audiences in a warm, friendly manner.
